Does anyone remember watching 3D filmsĀ as a kid? You had to wear those paper glasses with one red lens and one blue. I remember sneaking a peek at the film without the glasses and seeing the distorted images that somehow magically became 3D with something as simple as blue and red lenses.
I have a point donāt worry! Say life is the film. Your mindset is the lens through which you interpret life. How you respond to what happens in your life depends on your mindset. Thatās how you make sense of ...
The term imposter syndrome has never sat right with me. Thatās not because Iāve gone through life with full confidence that I can do anything I set my mind to. I wish! Iāve had my doubts and fears. Iāve had times when I stopped myself from being successful. But it wasnāt because I felt that I was an imposter - undeserving and about to be caught out. I know Iām a good coach. I feel confident in my qualifications and experience and the progress I see my clients make.Ā
But because imposter syndrom...
Does your internal monologue sound like this at all?
I should really be Xā¦
I should get on top of Yā¦
I should have figured out Z by nowā¦
āShouldsā are the bane of my existence! Theyāre flagged in both of my journaling clubs. Whenever I hear the word uttered, I make a point to question it (even if Iām the one saying āshouldā). Do it because you want to do it or not at all!Ā
āShouldsā are like unwritten rules we think we have to follow. If you donāt question them, you live your life on autopi...
Life can be overwhelming. It can also be incredibly fulfilling. Most of us are walking the line between the two. Personal values are a great anchor point to keep you calm in the chaos and spend more time on the side of fulfilment. These are the principles that are most important to you. For example, fun, freedom and family are some of my values (not necessarily in that order!). When Iām making decisions in my business or personal life, I make sure my decision aligns with fun, freedom and family....
Have you ever reached the realisation that you've completely lost touch with yourself? You donāt know who you are anymore. It hits you like a ton of bricks. I had that revelation a few years back. I had moulded myself to fit other peopleās expectations of me. At the same time, I had eroded my sense of self and who I truly was.Ā
It was a lightbulb moment that something needed to change. I wanted to be myself. But I had no idea who that was, I needed to sort my real self out from who I had become...
I first came across gratitude journaling when I was in therapy for depression. Needless to say, I was in a dark period of my life and didnāt see much to be grateful for, but as I picked up the habit of gratitude I did start to notice a change. I was beginning to see shimmers of hope. Gradually, I was able to see more positivity in my world.Ā
Thatās the thing about gratitude journaling, it seems silly at first, especially if you are starting small by writing down things like how grateful you are...
Itās time to emerge from winter hibernation, bask in the sunlight when it finally graces grey old England, and embrace the energy of springtime: new life, new colour, new opportunities, new excitement.Ā
For me, I think now is a perfect time to clear away the dead leaves blocking your path forward, get your ducks in a row (Can I think of any more seasonal analogies?) and initiate the progress youāve been longing for. It could be to wake up 15 minutes earlier. It could be to start a whole new car...
Thereās a good reason why I built my coaching business around journaling after using it myself for years and enhancing my knowledge and experience into practice during my Journal Therapy diploma. Itās a powerful tool for achieving meaningful results.
It's not just me saying that either, it's also backed by science. Among other proven benefits, this study shows that journaling can effectively reduce anxiety and check outĀ this studyĀ to show that it can improve physical health too! It sounds craz...
Letās talk about gratitudeĀ š„°
What is gratitude?Ā The Oxford English dictionary definition is āThe quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.
Practising gratitude is recognising and acknowledging the things that others have done for you.Ā Itās recognising and acknowledging the things you have in your life.Ā Ā
Thing is, you know you're grateful, you donāt take things for granted and you always say thank you when someone holds a door open for you!Ā So, wh...
Funny thing - I've journaled for over 30 years in some form or another, yet for many years I had no idea I was journaling.
Yup, I confess I always assumed journaling was the American phrase for keeping a diary.Ā I also figured that keeping a diary was for teenagers and in my 20s and 30s I was just doing a more grown up version of that because it had grown up words in it like - "job", "work", "finances" and other scary, stressful grown up things.
During the first lockdown I really started to re...
