Find your marketing vibe and see your efforts finally pay off

I’m going to tell you a secret. I don’t enjoy social media. I just don’t want to deal with it. I don’t want to write about my business again and again, multiple times a week. As a small business owner, admitting this feels like committing treason!

On the other hand, if you see me networking (like at a Small Business Vibes event *wink wink*), I’ll be raving about my clients and the progress they’re making. I love talking to people about what I do during networking. People often tell me how I light up and how they can feel my genuine enthusiasm. 

When I was reviewing my marketing a couple of years ago, I noticed the stark difference between these two marketing methods, both in how I felt about them and in the results I got. It was a clear sign to double down on networking. I didn’t want to ditch social media altogether as it’s a way to stay top-of-mind with the people I meet at networking. So I delegated it. I no longer channel time and energy into social media that I could use to meet my next client at networking. 

That’s right, I built my marketing strategy based on what I liked and didn’t like, and I haven’t looked back since! It has helped me grow my business and here’s why. 

Can you really just do the marketing you like?

Doing what you want in business can feel wrong. Aren’t there rules you have to follow? Nope! There’s no one way to build a business. You and your business are unique. Look at what you find enjoyable and you’ll set yourself up for success with marketing (and any other area of your business). 

Consistency

If I don’t enjoy doing something, I struggle to do it.. That’s just how my brain works! Generally, we’re attracted to what brings us the least pain and the most pleasure. There’s a reason my husband does my accounting! 

With marketing, it helps to be consistent. It doesn’t matter if your strategy involves networking, social media or a podcast. Repeat interactions are what turn strangers into supporters and supporters into customers. If you focus on the marketing activities you enjoy and delegate or ditch the rest, over time, you’re going to get better results because you’ll show up more consistently. 

 

Confidence

When we’re doing something because we think we have to, not because we want to, it’s noticeable. The vibes are off! All that negative energy holds us back from effectively communicating our message and building trust with our audience. You might as well delegate or ditch it!

We get a massive confidence boost when we focus on the marketing activities we like. We come across more like us, the message is clearer and we get more creative with it. Your audience gets who you are and what you’re all about and want to be part of it. 

Focus

You can’t do everything. You’ll get overwhelmed and fall off the marketing wagon altogether - been there done that! When we narrow down what we like and what’s working, our marketing packs more of a punch. We can focus on doing a few things well instead of doing lots of things mediocre. It makes sense to go all in on a couple of marketing methods you feel good about. 

Market your business your way! Running your business will be a lot more enjoyable, which is always a good thing. Your marketing efforts will get better results because you’re more consistent, communicate with more confidence and clarity and can focus on nailing a few marketing strategies.
