Are clients slipping through your fingers?

Feel more confident and close more sales with this technique

Here you are again. You’re staring at a potential client through Zoom, looking for any positive signs that they might be considering saying yes to working with you. Then they hit you with “I’ll think about it…”

You’re defeated. It’s the same thing every time. No matter how many top tip TikToks you watch, free trainings you attend or sales call scripts you try, you seem to momentously trip over the final hurdle of closing the sale. Still, you get the deer in headlights or word vomit moment.

The more you ‘mess up’ closing sales, the more difficult they become because you get stressed about making the same mistakes again and start to lose belief in your ability to create a positive outcome.

It would be so much easier if you could get it right a few times so you could build your confidence. In a way, you can. Let me introduce you to the dialogue journaling technique to help you close more sales and win more clients.

The dialogue technique

This is a journal practice that allows you to walk through a conversation without the conversation actually happening. It’s great because you can work through a conversation you want to have, but are nervous about having, in a safe space. Without the pressure of someone in front of you waiting for your response, it’s much easier to figure out what you actually want to say.

So it’s perfect for practicing sales conversations and building confidence in closing sales. You can work out what to say to different questions and objections beforehand and have your responses ready to go in your head.

Did you know that writing something by hand makes it much easier to remember? Another point for journaling! Closing sales becomes familiar so you don’t have to worry about not knowing what to say.

How to use the dialogue technique

Step #1 Determine the outcome: The dialogue journaling technique works best when you have a set outcome in mind so the conversation doesn’t go on forever. During this practice, you’ll be running through conversations that all end with the same outcome - closing the sale.

Step #2 List the possibilities: Make a note of all the different ways the conversation could go. So for sales conversations, think about all the questions they could ask and objections they could pose.

Remember: Closing a sale won’t always involve a client enthusiastically handing over their money in the first 5 minutes. Some of your clients will go away and think about it. That’s fine! Include that in the list of possibilities so you can run through a sales call where you give them all the information they need to say yes to you when they are ready.

Step #3 Write the conversations: Write both sides of the sales call. That’s you and the potential client. Run through each of the variations and scenarios you’ve noted down, bringing each one to the same conclusion - a sale. Once you’ve gone through all of the different possible conversations, you’ll be prepared to face (pretty much) anything that comes up in a sales call.

Top tip: Look over the conversations in your journal before getting on a sales call to remind yourself of how you responded to different situations and that you can do it.

Right, you’re ready to try out the dialogue technique to boost your confidence and feel comfortable for when it comes to discussing money and helping you to close the sale. So grab your journal and a cuppa, get cosy and give it a go.

How to use journaling to grow your business

As you can see, journaling isn’t just writing about your feelings. It’s a powerful tool to explore your subconscious, discover both blockers and strengths and build the confidence to take the next step in your business. That’s why it’s so effective for business owners who are looking to move to the next level but are feeling stuck.

Turning journaling into a habit to drive business growth can feel intimidating when you don’t really know what you’re doing and already have a very full to-do list. That’s why I created the Find Your Vibe Business Club. Use journaling (and everything else included in the membership) to find out what works for you and your business so you can ditch the procrastination and self-doubt and turn your biggest ambitions into a reality.

The combination of journal prompts, live sessions and a private Facebook group gives you access to both expert guidance from me and community support from your fellow members. That can include a pep talk or a kick up the bum, whatever is warranted! Click here for all the details and the link to join.
